Smart Growth Strategies: Coaching, Delegation, and Personal Care

March 11, 2025

Episode Overview

Matt LaMartina’s first conversation with Toolbox for the Trades was about overcoming cramped office space and opening new divisions, including drain services.

At ServiceTitan’s Pantheon 2024 in Orlando, the president and owner of Tony LaMartina Plumbing got back on the mic for a candid chat about continuous growth in the trades and how to scale a business sustainably.

He believes constant improvement comes when you never stop seeking out new ideas.

“We can always do better,” LaMartina says. “Not just CSRs and field techs. Me. My leadership team. We’re in this constant state of learning and I think that's the only way that we're going to continue to grow and scale to new levels.”

He’s also learned it’s wise not to heap all the responsibility for growth on himself.

“I need to delegate more,” LaMartina says. “I need to get out of the details. I am the biggest impediment to my own growth and I need to delegate to people so they can help us scale.”

Along with creating the right company culture, LaMartina says he needs to find the right tools to help his team keep improving at the basics of home services.

That’s one reason he attends Pantheon, and fills a notebook with the information he gathers at the conference.

After decompressing from the event and indulging in some personal care – a practice he’s weaving into his life more – he’ll revisit his notes.

“What's going to help me book calls better?” he muses. “Convert calls better? What's going to help me put the right plumber on the right job? If I can have the products that help me achieve those core fundamental things. That's what I'm going to go after.”

It fits into LaMartina’s game plan that continuous growth is all about being open to new things.

Matt LaMartina recently joined ServiceTitan’s Jackie Aubel on the “Toolbox for the Trades” podcast, which included LaMartina’s thoughts on:
